Roses

Top Crops’s nursery has a wide range of roses, both tender and hardy varieties. While hardy roses need little pruning and can survive a normal winter with minimal protection, tender roses require more care. We grow the majority of our roses right here in our facilities in Cranbrook.

Edibles

We grow more than 50 varieties of edibles locally. With everything from raspberries to apples, cherries, plums and honeyberry, we can help if you are concerned about what you eat. Top Crop offers fruit trees with dwarf, semi-dwarf and standard rootstocks. This means you can choose a couple of large trees or plant several smaller trees of your favorite varieties for a bigger orchard selection. If you don’t have room for a tree, we have a great selection of fruit-bearing shrubs to start your own berry patch.

Evergreens

Whether it is some privacy or a wind-break you are looking for, evergreens are a great choice. They come in various different shapes and sizes, with the perfect type for every corner of your yard. Pyramid-shaped evergreens, such as fir and spruce, may cover a circle 30 feet in diameter when they reach full maturity. If you are looking for something more compact, cone-shaped evergreens, such as upright junipers, are a good choice. They reach maturity at 20 to 30 feet, with a spread of 5 to 10 feet, depending on the variety. A globe-shaped shrub can create a nice accent in the landscape. If you are looking to cover a lot of ground, spreading and low-spreading. Ask the experienced nursery staff to find the one that will best suit your needs.

Ornamental Trees

Whether it’s stunning spring flowers or shade on hot summer days, ornamental trees can greatly improve your yard. Planted as street trees, they can provide cover and shade for paved surfaces, reducing runoff and reflected heat. They can greatly increase your home’s curb appeal. Large trees with a spreading canopy make great shade trees. Planted near the house, they can help you save money on heating and cooling. Windbreak trees can also help reduce energy bills. Strategically placed, these trees can protect people, animals and plants from harsh winds and blowing snow, reduce noise and dust and attract songbirds to your property.

Ornamental Shrubs & Vines

Ornamental shrubs are commonly used in landscaping as foundation plantings, screens and backgrounds, as well as walk and driveway accents. Located near the foundation of the home, mostly smaller shrubs are chosen to compliment the architecture of the home. Taller shrubs and vines can make a great privacy screen or provide the background for smaller plants. Popular choices are spirea plants with their dense clusters of hundreds of small flowers as well as barberries and potentillas. They are great choices to deter deer coming to your garden and – once established – are extremely low maintenance. People looking for a taller plant often choose the lilac with its distinctly fragrant flowers.
